Mission Statement
West Valley Softball uses softball as a tool to teach the benefits of an active life and to help youth develop physically and emotionally toward
responsible adulthood. Youths learn to set goals, test limits acquire self-discipline and deal with the ups and downs, which are a reflection of
life.
Coaches
Head coaches and team managers are required to participate in the Department of Justice mandated “LiveScan” program. This program
requires finger printing and background checks. West Valley Slammer’s is a proud member of The Positive Coaching Alliance.
Game Locations
All age groups 6U-12U play at Bagby School located at the corner of Leigh Avenue and Curtner Avenue. The 14U division will play some games
at Bagby (their home filed) as well as at the home fields of other local softball leagues.
Player Commitment
Before registering, players and their parents should consider the attendance needed for team practices and games. Typically there are 2-4
team activities per week (i.e. 2 practices and 1-2 game).
Parent Commitment
We ask that parents set good sportsmanship examples for your child to follow. There are many ways adults can contribute. Great role models,
attitudes, and support are always needed to make a youth league successful. Adults can help as: Managers & Coaches, Assistant Coaches,
Chaperones, Score keepers, Board Members, and with field preparation and grounds maintenance.
Each team will be required to provide a certain number of volunteer hours to the league. It is expected that these mandatory volunteer hours will
be provided by the team parents. These volunteer hours will be spent on field maintenance and field clean-up.
Playing Time
6U and 8U division players will play the entire game. Players in the upper divisions will play at least half of each game.
Accident Insurance
Your family’s medical and dental insurance acts as primary coverage in the event of an injury. The league provides secondary insurance as a
service to our members.
Uniforms & Equipment
Each player will receive a visor, team jersey, pants/shorts, and socks. Balls, bats, batting helmets, catcher’s equipment, bases, and first-aid kits
are provided to the team. Players are required to have their own glove and cleats. Kneepads are suggested for players in the 10U and older
divisions.
Batting Helmets Required for All Players
All players in all divisions are required to use batting helmets equipped with face masks (bars) and chin straps. Team equipment issued by the
league will have such protective gear available for all players on the team. If you decide to purchase a personal helmet for your daughter, please
make sure that it includes a comfortable face mask and chin strap.
Team Assignments
Players age 5-8 are assigned to teams. Assignments take place in January. Older division teams are formed by player draft. Players in the
10U, 12U and 14U divisions must attend Evaluation Day on Saturday, January 20, 2007 at Bagby School fields.
Umpires and Field Workers Needed
Umpires are needed for the 8U, 10U, 12U, & 14U games. An umpire clinic will be provided before the season starts for new & returning
umpires. Interested persons should sign up at registration.
Field crew workers are needed to prepare the fields for games and clean up after games. This is also a good part-time job opportunity for high
school students. If you are interested please contact Todd Kingery at (408)997-2150 or jtkingery@sbcglobal.net. Interested persons may also
sign up at registration.
Picture Day
Your coach will notify you of your team’s picture time. Each player will receive one team and one individual picture. You may purchase additional
photos and accessories.
West Valley Slammers is grateful to Round Table Pizza in Cambrian Park Plaza, San Jose for its sponsorship of Picture Day. Please visit
Round Table often and let them now you appreciate their support.
Sponsors Needed and Appreciated
A significant part of our league’s financial support comes from our generous team sponsors. We appreciate those companies and individuals
who have served as sponsors in the past. We are always looking for new sponsors too. If you or your company would like to sponsor a team
this year, please contact Dana Dobrenz at (408)377-6561 or hands2knead@comcast.net. A tax receipt will be issued as West Valley Slammers
